Recount: Franken, Coleman running neck and neck

November 22, 2008

This is the place to look for recount data — updated from the Secretary of State’s web site every night.

A hat-tip to Minnesota Independent for the great neck-and-neck photo.

And this is the place to send your recount stories — editor@tcdailyplanet.net.

Day three recount results, November 22, 8 p.m.

Precincts Recounted: 73.24% (3025 of 4130)
Percentage of Ballots Recounted = 65.65%

November 4 votes from these precincts were 809,454 for Coleman and 784,022 for Franken — resulting in a Coleman lead of 25,432.

The recount totals changed the result to 808,785 for Coleman and 783,401 for Franken — resulting in a Coleman lead of 25,384.

The “other” ballots, as recounted, totaled 321,425.

Franken representatives challenged 945 ballots, and Coleman representatives have challenged 948 ballots. These ballots will be considered by the State Canvassing Board, which will decide whether they should be counted as Coleman, Franken or “other” ballots.

All recount results are incomplete and unofficial until the State Canvassing Board certifies the final results.

When verse is set to music, I can generally handle it better. One reason I found Minneapolis poet Dobby Gibson’s new collection, Skirmish, so enjoyable is that his combination of mordant wit and bittersweet longing so recalls the lyrics of my favorite songwriter, Bob Dylan.
