Fire Coach Childress

December 01, 2008

For weeks now, the Minnesota Vikings Faithful have been calling for the dismissal of Coach Brad Childress. For that same amount of time, I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. I said things like, “the team just needs a little more work, they will be good to go” and “the Sistine Chapel wasn’t built over night”.

The Free Speech Zone offers a space for contributions from readers, without editing by the TC Daily Planet. This is an open forum for articles that otherwise might not find a place for publication, including news articles, opinion columns, announcements and even a few press releases.

But as it turns out, my faith was blind. I am now chanting those very words while watching every game, “fire Childress, fire Childress”.

Despite the 30 – 12 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars this weekend, the team stands at 6-5, far below expectations that the Vikings faithful had for this team before the season began. Blame it on the quarterback, blame it on the secondary, or blame whoever you want. The fact remains that for the second year in a row, Brad Childress has taken a team with high expectations and driven it into the ground. Look at the other teams who are successful despite having an unproven quarterback or lack luster defense: the Cardinals, the Patriots, the Falcons, the Buccaneers, the Titans, the Broncos, the list just goes on and on.

I think it is clear what needs to happen. If this team falls short of the playoffs for the 4th year in a row, I think Mr. Wilf needs to start chanting those same words, “fire Childress, fire Childress.”
