Fire Coach Childress

For weeks now, the Minnesota Vikings Faithful have been calling for the dismissal of Coach Brad Childress. For that same amount of time, I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. I said things like, “the team just needs a little more work, they will be good to go” and “the Sistine Chapel wasn’t built over night”. MORE »

Let us rejoin the world, my words

We abandoned the world when George W. Bush became the President of the United States of America. We embarked on a course of conquering it when “W” became the “Emperor of the World” after the September 11 attacks. Both plans and policies were mean-spirited and wrong. They have brought nothing positive for America or the world. Only dead humans, economic ruin and environmental disaster. MORE »

How the GOP threw the 2008 presidential election (sort of)

Barack Obama will soon be inaugurated as the United States’ 44th President, a feat of unparalleled significance in our history. I don’t want to take anything away from this monumental victory, but there is a reason that McCain didn’t win (and it’s not Sarah Palin). MORE »

Against school levies

I read with some interest the Mpls Daily Planet article on “School Tax Levies”. I agree with much the author says about the obligation of the State to fund education. Though I certainly disagree about the cause for the poor education offered to less advantaged children in Minneapolis. That poor education is because of systemic failure, not because of funding. Abortion: I believe taking away a woman’s right to abortion is taking away her freedom. There are diverse reasons why abortion is the best option. There may be rape; few people want a reminder of a traumatic event. There may also be financial issues; many women just can’t afford children. Additionally, women with weak emotional states frequently turn to alcohol and drugs and this dependency leads to abuse and/or neglect of her kids … If a woman makes this call, or wants the option to make this call, why do people pass judgment? Hard decisions are based on beliefs and if you make a decision based on what you believe, then everyone should both accept and respect your decision. — Sparkle Jones, 17, Humboldt High School MORE »

THEATER | "White Sheep of the Family," a sharp farce at Theatre in the Round

You’re not going to find a stronger theater company in the Twin Cities than the Theatre in the Round Players, and they’ve done it again, mounting yet another first-rate production.
